What we _believe_ in
at gripastudio.

We installed a waste water treatment equipment (**Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah - IPAL**) to treat any toxic waste water from our services. Waste water includes fat, oil, and grease (FOG) resulting from residues of meat, deep-fried food, baked items and butter. IPAL also helps us treat toxic water from the toilets too. We ensure the water is now safe to be absorbed by the soil. We even water the gardens with it!

Our partner, **Bruno Cafe in the Park**'s team member would excrete and clean on a regular basis, which involves the grease trap being pumped out and thoroughly cleaned in order to prevent any further disruption. 

Grease can be a very destructive substance, sticking to pipe walls and building up over itself, eventually leading to severe blockages and fatbergs. 

Fats and oils that find their way into drainage systems can also damage wastewater treatment equipment – leading to municipalities paying millions for repairs every year. **These substances can also lead to serious environmental damage and irreparable damage to ecosystems**.

Grease traps, also known as grease interceptor, converter, catcher, grease management systems, or FOG traps, have been in use for over 100 years. They are used in a wide range of environments in order to prevent grease buildup and clogged grease from occurring within municipal drainage systems. 

**A grease trap is a receptacle where wastewater containing FOG enters before travelling into the drainage system**. This receptacle intercepts and traps fats, oils, and grease within the draining water – allowing clear water to escape and drain away. 

Areas, where grease traps are most commonly found, are restaurants, commercial kitchens, hotels, schools & colleges, and bakeries.

Grease traps are effective because they work on the basis that fats, oils, and grease (FOG) are typically around 15% less dense than water, as well as the fact that FOG does not mix with water; leading to these substances floating on the water’s surface. 

When wastewater containing FOG enters a grease trap, the water is slowed so that the contaminated water can cool and separate into three layers. Grease, because it is less dense than water, rises to the top – able to be trapped using a system of baffles. Any solids settle at the bottom of the interceptor, with the clear water escaping through an outlet baffle. 

Grease traps typically have strainers that can collect solid debris, reducing the number of solids that settle at the bottom.

We treat our waste water and reuse them for our gardens

We welcome and support Electric Vehicles (EV) by providing charging stations at the back of the parking lot. **Customers of gripastudio and Bruno Cafe in the Park can charge for free**!

We use Type 2 inlet charging standard, commonly used when charging at home or at public slow and fast AC points. EVs replace traditional fuel vehicles and reduce exhaust emissions. EV charger uses renewable energy for charging, reducing the carbon footprint.

In the spirit of keeping the air clean and **promotion of sustainable transportation development**, we always require guests to turn off their engines off while parked, and to not honk around the premises.

Charge your EV car for free while dining at the cafe

We utilized solar power to **help light up our gardens and areas around the studio**. They are placed in our rooftop garden.

Solar energy is electrical or thermal energy harvested from sunlight. Solar panels **contain photovoltaic (PV) cells made up of semiconductor materials (such as silicon)** to absorb elemental particles from the sun called photons. When absorbed by the panel, the photons release electrons from the atoms of the semiconductor material and the flow of these electrons within the cell creates an electric current we can direct to our circuits. The sun’s constant barrage of energy in the form of photons can be collected, transformed and used to power our world

Solar power has the potential to **help us minimize our use of fossil fuels and the impact we have on the environment**. A solar panel system requires little maintenance as long as it remains unaffected by environmental factors. **It can last 25 to 30 years.** 

Technology has improved tremendously since the early days of solar power and advancements continue to be made every day. Better yet, despite these advancements, solar’s ubiquity appears to have driven its cost down, **making solar more accessible to more consumers**.

Solar panels help light up our gardens and areas around the studio

**In conjunction with Bruno Cafe in the Park**, we have reduced plastic waste in our takeaway packaging. We will not use plastic unless it is absolutely necessary. You can also purchase reusable Bruno tumbler and glasses at the cafe.

According to various data sources, Indonesia ranks among the top 10 global plastic polluters. **The country generates approximately 7.8 million tons of plastic waste annually**, of which **62.85% is mismanaged due to a poor waste collection system**. This means, that a lot of waste does not end up in formally managed landfills but leaks into rivers and open dump sites. Most are burnt, releasing toxic substances into the air. As a result, Indonesia shared second place with India for having their plastic overshoot day on 6 January 2023, the day a country’s plastic waste generation is outnumbering its capacity to manage it.

Among the mismanaged plastic waste, single-use sachets and pouches contribute to about **76% of plastic pollution**. According to a 2023 United Nations Environment Programme report, the packaging sector is the world's largest generator of single-use plastic waste. It noted that approximately **36% of all plastics produced are used in packaging** for personal care, household cleaning, and food.

Our solution is to **partner with local packaging converters** instead of importing reusable packaging from another country. It is environmentally and socially beneficial and will also boost the reuse packaging ecosystem in Indonesia.

Plants are the unsung heroes of our world, silently working behind the scenes to keep our planet thriving. From the air we breathe to the food we eat, their importance can hardly be overstated.

Green spaces teeming with trees and plants offer a sanctuary for the soul, reducing stress, boosting mood, and promoting physical activity. By cultivating and preserving green havens within our communities, **we can foster healthier, happier humans and a greener planet** to boot.

In the busy urban landscape, plants serve as nature's air purifiers, filtering out pollutants and toxins from the environment. **Trees, in particular, act as guardians of our air quality**, absorbing carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide, while releasing fresh oxygen. 

**Plants really are the lungs of our planet**, sustaining ecosystems, feeding us and enriching our lives in countless other ways. Indeed, they are the very things that make life on Earth possible. It is our collective responsibility to protect and nurture these precious natural wonders for the health of ourselves and of our planet. We ask all of our customers to **help keep our park clean** by putting the trash where it belongs, and to **not bring more trash in by bringing food from the outside**.

Preserving the cleanliness of our urban park in the heart of Jakarta is essential for maintaining a healthy and vibrant community space. As the park serves as a green oasis amid the bustling city, it is crucial that all visitors take responsibility for its upkeep. The SimbaTree and our koi pond are our customer favorite elements to sit under, play and enjoy. We want to ensure these two venue icons remain intact.

Encouraging the use of eco-friendly products and reducing plastic waste are also important steps in ensuring the park remains a pristine and welcoming space for everyone. By working together, we can **protect this vital urban green space** and ensure it continues to be a source of relaxation and enjoyment for future generations.
